JANUARY YOUTH CALENDAR
Our January Youth calendar is full of special events for youth 6th grades and up.
Sunday, January 7—Normal Sunday school schedule resumes.
January – Sunday 2nd hour XP3
Be sure to join us Sunday mornings during second hour for XP3 in the youth lounge. Beginning January 7, we will start a four-week series called Know God.
SAVE THE DATE — Sunday, January 14
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a refugee camp? During SNL on January 14, we are partnering with SHIM to hear local teenagers share their experiences as refugees. This is one SNL you don’t want to miss!
Sunday, January 21 – 6:00-9:00 p.m. (NOTE: THIS IS A NEW EVENT)
Pittsburgh Presbytery’s “The Event 2018” is open to youth 6th grades and up. Join other youth from across our region for an evening of worship, fun, growth and fellowship. The model for the evening will be similar to the “club time” at a retreat, mission trip or summer camp and feature games/contests, music, and a keynote speaker. The keynote speaker is the one and only Mark Oestreicher. “Marko” is a nationally (and internationally) known speaker and shouldn’t be missed. Music will be led by the contemporary worship band from Westminster Presbyterian Church. At newsletter deadline, there were already over 75 youth registered for this event, so it should be an awesome chance to connect with teens from all over the Pittsburgh area. We will meet at Bower Hill at 6:00 p.m. and carpool to Beulah Presbyterian Church, which is right off the Parkway East. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the event starting at 7:00 p.m. We will return to Bower Hill by 9:00 p.m. Register your youth (and any friends) on the Evite sent from Amy so that carpooling can be arranged.
Sunday, January 28 – Family Game Night during SNL
Our next SNL Game night is at the end of January. All family members are invited to join the youth in Fellowship Hall for group games and fun night of fellowship. We ask each family in attendance to bring a snack to share.
New Multi-generational Mission Opportunities
The Youth Committee in conjunction with Mission and Outreach, are excited to announce NEW,
multi-generational mission opportunities for youth and families!
1) Refugee Resettlement Bags
In January and February, we will be working with AJAPO, a refugee resettlement agency, to create welcome bags for refugee families. The exciting news… this is something that children and adults of all ages can do! Stay tuned for full details in January.
2) Saturday, February 17 – One Day Plunge at The Pittsburgh Project
The Pittsburgh Project is a Christian nonprofit community development organization with a 32-year track record of developing servant leaders and upholding the dignity of vulnerable homeowners. All youth (grades 6 and up) and adults are invited to participate in the One Day Plunge. We will start the day early to gather with other service-minded groups for work assignments and instructions. Then we launch out on a full day of home repairs on a home in one of Pittsburgh’s many neighborhoods. We will end the day’s work back at The Pittsburgh Project for refreshments and a time of worship and debriefing. We’re done before dinner. Their staff provides lunch, tools and materials. In order for our youth to participate, we need a one-to-one ratio of youth to adults, so we are looking for several adults to join us to ensure that all youth who want to attend may participate. The costs for this event will be covered by Youth Work Trip and M&O funds, so this opportunity is free to all who wish to participate! A signup sheet is on the bulletin board by the Friendship Room, and look for an online signup coming soon!
SAVE THE DATE – Youth Work Trip, July 16-20
A youth work trip at the Pittsburgh Project is set for the week of July 16-20. Chaperones are needed (to ensure we are able to offer this to our youth); if you are interested in learning more about helping, please contact Amy Grella.
