Our purpose has remained constant through the years – to provide support and care to church members. Each Deacon is responsible for one of twelve “care groups,” contacting members of the church throughout the year and offering support when needed.
The members of this elected board are the structured expression of care to the members.
Deacons of Bower Hill Community Church meet the 3rd Monday at 7:00 pm in the Lounge.

Ministry Descriptions and Responsible Deacons
The following list shows the caring groups and the deacon responsible for moderating that group. For more information on group assignments or activities within that group, please contact the deacon directly.
Feed My Sheep
Provide a monthly ministry of food to members as an expression of care/concern. Usually dinners are delivered. Sometimes breakfast baskets or breadbaskets are delivered to those who do not need dinner. Many people in the congregation have answered Beth Robosky’s request for volunteers to prepare and deliver dinners to members during a time of need. Please contact her if you are willing to serve in this way.
Contact members in need, through visits, phone calls and meal deliveries.
Responsible Deacon: All deacons.
Ministry at the Time of Death
We offer families a reception following memorial services. Linda Johnson and Kate Junker head this committee with all the Deacons helping throughout the year. Mid-year we adjusted the BHCC tradition of giving a sheaf of wheat during the memorial service: now families receive a sheaf of wheat charm on a bookmark, which is personalized and explains the significance of the wheat. We continue to provide a four-book grief series to members who have lost a loved one.
Responsible Deacon: Doris Olinger, Anne Mitchell, Josie Sheldon.
Ordering of flowers and arrangement of Easter flowers, Pentecost geraniums and Christmas poinsettias.
With the help of the church secretary, Cynthia Gissin organizes the sanctuary flowers. When donors request live flowers, a Deacon delivers them to members who should be remembered. A silk arrangement is used when the donor has made a monetary donation to a mission project of their choice.
Responsible Deacon: Cynthia Gissin
The deacons would like to provide a ride to worship for members who need one. The deacons are compiling a list of people who might be willing to give rides to church. There are several people who do not drive who might come to church if they had a ride.

Deacons provide a gift for new babies of church members.
