Gordon and Anne Mitchell
Last updated 11/17/2017
Gordon and Anne were born and raised in Oil City, PA. We both attended the local schools and graduated from Oil City High School. Gordon is the youngest of 11 children (3 boys, 8 girls) (2 sets of twins). Anne had one sister. Anne graduated from Waynesburg College and University of Pitt, and Gordon served 5 years in United States Air Force in Georgia, Thailand, and Viet Nam. We both had two wonderful careers. Gordon worked for Northwest Bank, Mellon Bank, and Penn Bank Corp. in Oil City, and Anne taught 2nd and 3rd grade at Jefferson Elementary School in Mt. Lebanon. We officially met through Anne’s mother after Gordon’s first wife died, and he was transferred to Pittsburgh with Integra/National City Bank. Our families both went to the same Presbyterian Church in Oil City, and Gordon lived on the same street as Anne’s parents. We have been married for 26 years and have a son and daughter and 5 grandchildren. Our son and family live in Mt. Lebanon, and our daughter and family live in Austin, TX.
We have been members of Bower Hill Church for 20+ years. We decided to make Bower Hill our church because the people were very friendly and made us feel comfortable. Alice Kerner got us involved in church work by asking Gordon to be on the Parish Life Committee with her, and then called Anne for committee work, too. We are members of the choir, bells, session, and deacons and also have been members of Music and Worship, Finance and Stewardship, Koinonia and men’s breakfast. Gordon served on the Pastor Nominating Committee to bring Rev Dr. Brian Snyder to Bower Hill Community Church. Gordon has been Treasurer of Bower Hill for several years.
Since we both are retired we try to spend as much time as possible walking, hiking, biking, skiing, playing tennis, and traveling. We have traveled with 2 of Anne’s cousins and wives in United States, as well as Canada, Switzerland, and Germany. Anne has also joined Gordon and Glenn Child on several bicycle trips including one from Pittsburgh to Washington D.C. and another across Missouri on the Katy Trail. We also have been volunteering much of our time with South Hills Interfaith Ministries (SHIM).
