About The Event
Due to Labor Day, the September hike will be the second Saturday in September. The hike for this month will be trails in the Wildflower Reserve. The 314-acre Raccoon Creek Wildflower Reserve, originally purchased in 1962 by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, contains one of the most biodiverse and unique stands of wildflowers in Pennsylvania. More than 700 species of plants can be found along the 4.5 miles of trails, between a variety of habitats including oak-hickory forest, pine plantations, meadows, and riparian forest. Other than a couple of short steep climbs most of the hiking will be fairly flat with lots of shade.
We will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the main parking lot and carpool to the trailhead. All trailheads are about a 10 minute drive. The hike should take about 2 hours. So, we will be back before 12:00 p.m. If it rains, we will reschedule. Please email me at gstchild@yahoo.com or call so we don’t leave without you.
