Building and Grounds News - New Sanctuary Windows

ree

The Building and Grounds Committee is tasked with maintaining and managing the physical facilities for worship, study and fellowship. Some of our tasks are routine such as arranging for the mowing of the church lawn during warm weather and the plowing of the parking lots when it snows.

We also put a lot of work into identifying major and minor projects that need to be addressed. Our most recent project has been replacing the windows in the Sanctuary.

Replacing the 31-year old Sanctuary windows has been on our radar for a while now. Rotting wood has become a major problem and several of the windows were in such bad condition that they couldn’t be opened for fear of doing more damage.

After getting several bids, we selected a vendor that could stay true to the architectural style of the old windows, do the work within our budget, and install the windows before the cold weather sets in. The workers we chose were able to install the windows over two weeks.

The design of the new windows should allow them to hold up better than the old windows and they have insulated glass with coatings that reflect the heat. Foam insulation has been put around the windows where previously there was little or none which will result in less gas usage in the winter and make the sanctuary more comfortable throughout the year.

In the upcoming months, the Building and Grounds Committee will share more information about some of the other projects we have been working on.
