As we move into May, the season of the church is Eastertide. This is a 50-day period of joyous celebration that ends with the celebration of Pentecost, focused on the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. Since the timing of the celebration of Easter is related to the spring solstice, the days also reveal the new life of the trees, plants and flowers around us.
I know if you are a gardener, it is also a time to clean up the accumulated debris from the winter and begin making the flower beds ready for planting. Years ago, when we had coal furnaces, it was also a time of Spring Cleaning that meant washing drapes and replacing them with curtains.
A task that we as Christians should be about is seeking new ways to honor our faith commitment. What are the things we put off all winter? It should be a time of visiting our neighbors and friends. It is time to explore ways to enhance our commitments to the many mission ministries that Bower Hill supports. All of us can adopt the new spirit of the resurrection by accepting an attitude of gratitude and love.
