Get Outdoors - Friendship Hill - 9/5/2026
 On September 5, 2026, a group of 4 members of Bower Hill Community Church hiked trails at Friendship Hill. Friendship Hill was the summer home of Albert Gallatin, a prominent individual during the formation of the United States. On the ride up we checked out the accomplishments of Gallatin on the internet. Upon arriving we discovered there was to be a Whiskey Rebellion celebration in the park starting at 11 a. m. We started by taking a quick self-guided tour of the home. Leaving Gallatin’s home, we took the green trail which started at an overlook of the Monongahela River. After passing through the edge of a field, we entered the woods and came to Sophie’s gravesite, who was the first wife of Albert Gallatin. The trail continued along a ridge, then descended steep stairs to the Monongahela River. The trail followed the river on what was probably an old dirt access road. Along the way, we had glimpses of a barge coming up the river. We took a turn onto another trail that more gently ascended the hill. Along the way, we hear a canon being fired as part of the Whiskey Rebellion reenactment. After a few twists and turns, we arrived back at the car. |
