Mission Committee - The Stone Catchers

The Stone Catchers are a group of Presbyterians in the Pittsburgh Presbytery who have been trained in a two-part journey to invigorate a robust Christian witness in public squares in our community. Harnessing the power of Christian scandal, the training equips us to witness powerfully to our faith through evocative actions, reinforced by clear and consistent proclamation that explains our actions. Together, these coordinated words and deeds ignite public imagination about what Christian community is and what authentic Christian faith demands. Sarah Neusius and Jean Miewald are part of this group.

Our first action was organized in 2 weeks: a procession called “Hosanna! Love Demands Courage, A Palm Sunday Procession of Neighbors” in Oakland. Eleven people from Bower Hill participated (see photo. Amy Grella was also there). We started and ended at the stone bell tower at Bellefield Tower and walked around the block containing Heinz Chapel and the Cathedral of Learning. All together there were about 100 people who participated in a glorious event on a glorious spring day.
