Children and Youth – December 2024

Update from the Director of Education Ministries -- Amy Grella - 412-801-3723

Deck the Halls - Sunday, December 1

Many hands make light work! Please join us immediately following coffee hour on Sunday, December 1, to help prepare the church for advent and Christmas. There will be no second hour classes that day so everyone can help. Childcare will be available

in the nursery.

New Service Opportunities for Kids and Families

Kids learn Jesus is real through mission and discovering how they can use their gifts to help others. Each week, youth may volunteer to serve as acolytes or to share a Bible story with our youngest kids. Here are additional mission options for the entire

family.

• Through December 8 – Used (or new) Toy Collection

As we enter the season of Advent, one important way we can engage children is in sharing. We are partnering with Play It Forward Pittsburgh to collect gently used toys. The toys are then offered free to families who are in need or might be having a tough year. Please encourage your child to select a toy (or two) to share with another child.

Donations will be collected in bins located inside the portico entrance, or outside of the nursery. Visit their website for more info.

• December 29 – January 3 – Mission Trip to Western North Carolina for Disaster Relief

A team of twelve people is registered to aid in Hurricane Helene rebuilding efforts in Western North Carolina. We are partnering with Baptists on Mission (BoM) working towards the bold goal to return 1,000 people to their homes before the end of the year! It’s not too late to join us. Even if you can’t travel with us, consider supporting the team through a monetary donation to offset the cost of volunteers (estimated at $20 per day). A giving tree will be set up in the Narthex. Please reach out to Amy if you are interested in learning more.

Youth Group Ice Skating

Youth grades six and up will go ice skating at South Park’s outdoor ice rink on Saturday, December 14. We’ll meet at the church at 6:00 p.m. We’ll skate from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. and return to the church by 9:00 p.m. Click here to RSVP so you can see who’s

going and to help arrange carpooling. Please bring $5 for admission, $2 for skate rental if needed, and then money for snacks at the snack bar.

Children’s Christmas Eve Worship December 24, at 11:00 a.m.

We hope you will join us for a special interactive, Family Worship service on Tuesday, December 24. It will be geared toward children of all ages with our older youth narrating. This year’s format will again require minimal rehearsal and allow anyone

present to join in as we experience the Advent story and birth of Jesus, together. We will use Sunday School time in December to prepare. There will be a light coffee hour after this service; extra boxes of treats or cookies to share would be welcome!

Childcare will be provided in the nursery for the evening Christmas Eve service only, with special music beginning at 6:30 p.m., and traditional worship at 7:00 p.m.

Children and Youth will enjoy our annual Sunday-after-Christmas Pajama Party. All kids will be together on Sunday, December 29. Please report directly to room 110 at the beginning of worship (9:30 a.m.) There will be no children’s sermon. Kids should be picked up after worship. The nursery will be open that day. Wear your PJ’s and bring a pillow and blanket. We will watch a fun holiday DVD. Donut holes, fruit, juice, and milk

will be provided.
