On November 2, 2024, 5 members of Bower Hill and a friend hiked the trails in Cedar Creek Park in Westmoreland County. This park borders the Youghiogheny River and the GAP trail runs through it. We started by walking the GAP trail for about .5 miles. We then turned left onto the Gorge Loop Trail. After a short walk, we crossed over the creek on well maintained wooden bridge. The trail continues to follow the creek. Along the way was an historical marker for the Greenwood Homestead. A short walk later, we crossed the creek on another wooden bridge. On the other side of the bridge was a marker commemoration the Cedar Creek Mill. At this point, there are two other trails you can take. Due to steepness of trails and distance, we decided to go back by way of the same trail that follows the creek. As we hit the GAP trail, we turned left and went about another mile down the trail toward West Newton. All along the trail we were rewarded with views of the Youghiogheny river. We turned around at a rock formation called “The Mailboxes”. It was another great hike and a beautiful fall day in Western PA. |
